\n\"Kids\u2019\n<\/p>\n

\nTo mark the
\noccasion of World Environment Day and the pursuit of a more sustainable world, the
\nEuropean Patent Office (EPO) is pleased to announce the winners of the Kids‘
\ncollaborative art competition.\n<\/p>\n

\nA highlight of
\nthe EPO’s exciting programme to celebrate 50 years since the signing of the
\nEuropean Patent Convention, the competition was open to any primary school
\nlocated in any EPO member state, extension state or validation state. We would
\nlike to thank all 56 schools, in 19 countries, that entered the competition. Each
\nparticipating child will receive a thank you gift as a
\ntoken of our appreciation.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe competition aimed to nurture
\ncreativity, collaboration and problem solving among young children, skills that
\nevery inventor requires and that are crucial to building a more sustainable world.
\nIn total, more than 3 600
\nchildren participated by creating artworks that express their dreams and ideas about
\nhow innovation can help improve life on Earth for generations to come.\n<\/p>\n

\nFrom the 110
\nsubmissions received, 50 artworks were preselected with the support of the
\nMunich-based artist Bernard Boissel. EPO staff were then invited to cast their
\nvotes for their favourite pieces.\n<\/p>\n

\nAt the end of the voting phase, two schools had received
\nthe same number of votes. As a result, we are pleased to announce that the
\ncompetition has four, rather than three, winners:\n<\/p>\n

\nEach of the four schools
\nis to receive 3 000 EUR funding for their proposed educational initiative to
\nraise children’s awareness of sustainability in connection with art, innovation
\nand technology. The initiatives
\ninclude community clean-up efforts; an upcycling programme; a school garden;
\neducation on recycling and waste management; and the installation of a small wind
\nturbine and solar panel. The EPO is pleased to support these creative,
\ncollaborative and hands-on efforts to engage young minds on the topic of
