Join the EPO\u2019s virtual roundtable discussions\" width=\"560\" \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe share of women inventors in<br \/>\nthe world of science and technology has increased steadily in recent decades,<br \/>\nbut there is still a long way to go to reach gender parity.\u00a0While some technology sectors stand out for a relatively<br \/>\nhigher share of women, other sectors lag behind. Society needs more than ever<br \/>\nto strengthen the presence of women in the industries driving innovation, encouraging<br \/>\ngirls to take up STEM careers and play an active role in the global economy.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAhead of the launch later<br \/>\nthis month of our study &#8222;<i>Women&#8217;s participation in inventive activity:<br \/>\nevidence from EPO data<\/i>&#8220; the European Patent Office is hosting <i>&#8222;Women and<br \/>\nIP innovation<\/i><i>&#8222;<\/i>, a series of virtual roundtables to discuss<br \/>\nthe barriers to overcoming the gender gap and potential measures to enhance<br \/>\nwomen&#8217;s contributions to innovation. The events will gather outstanding women<br \/>\ninventors, heads of international patent offices, patent attorneys and<br \/>\nrepresentatives of academia.\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\tPanel 1: \u2018<b><i>Building the pipeline: women<br \/>\n\tstudying STEM<\/i><\/b>&#8218; on <b>16 November <\/b>will be moderated by Roberta<br \/>\n\tRomano-G\u00f6tsch, Chief Sustainability Officer at the EPO, and will count with the<br \/>\n\tparticipation of the EPO Chief Economist, Yann M\u00e9ni\u00e8re, co-author of the EPO&#8217;s<br \/>\n\tupcoming study. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\tPanel 2: <b><i>\u2018Getting international: a<br \/>\n\tglobal solution for women scientists?<\/i><\/b>&#8218; will take place on <b>23 November<\/b><br \/>\n\tand will focus on the key international aspect for taking up STEM careers.
