\nOn 14 June,
\nPresident Campinos held a virtual meeting with Juli\u00e1n Fernando Palac\u00edn Guti\u00e9rrez, Executive President of Peru’s National Institute for the Defence of Competition
\nand the Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI). It was the first
\ntime the two heads of office have met since Mr Palac\u00edn was appointed last year.
\nThe meeting provided both offices with an opportunity to exchange on the latest
\nnews and respective activities, discuss their co-operation, and plan for the
\nfuture.\n<\/p>\n
\nFollowing an
\nintroduction, the President provided his counterpart with an overview of
\nseveral topics. He outlined the New Ways of Working pilot and highlighted
\nseveral SP2023 achievements in projects related to digital transformation and
\nquality.\n<\/p>\n
\nLater in the
\nvirtual meeting, the delegations discussed the future of the bilateral Patent
\nProsecution Highway (PPH) programme. Through the programme, partner offices
\nutilise each other’s PCT or national work products on corresponding patent
\napplications, enabling applicants to obtain patents in a faster and more
\nefficient manner. The initial pilot commenced on 2 January 2020 for a period of
\nthree years, however, the EPO and INDECOPI delegations agreed to work towards a
\npermanent extension from January 2023 onwards.\n<\/p>\n
\nAt the end of
\nApril 2022, the EPO and INDECOPI signed two Memorandums of Understanding – one
\non Reinforced Partnership (RP) and another on Cooperative Patent Classification
\n(CPC). To further strengthen relations between the offices, the President and
\nMr Palac\u00edn signed a bilateral co-operation work plan for 2022-2023 during their
\nmeeting. The plan covers the re-use of EPO work products, several activities
\nrelated to the implementation of the CPC and improved data exchange.\n<\/p>\n
\nWhile their
\nfirst meeting was virtual, the President and Mr Palac\u00edn will have an
\nopportunity to meet in person in Geneva at the margin of the WIPO General
\nAssemblies in July.
