The newly established prize recognises<br \/>\nindividuals or teams of innovators aged 30 and younger and celebrates technological<br \/>\nsolutions that support the <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals\">United Nation&#8217;s Sustainable Development Goals<\/a>. In addition to its focus on sustainability,<br \/>\nthe inaugural event features equal gender representation and finalists from<br \/>\nfour countries: Brazil, Belgium, the United Kingdom and the United States.\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\tRafaella de Bona Gon\u00e7alves (Brazil): Biodegradable<br \/>\n\tpads and tampons to combat period poverty<\/li>\n<li>\n\tVictor<br \/>\n\tDewulf and Peter Hedley (Belgium\/United Kingdom): AI-driven waste management<\/li>\n<li>\n\tErin<br \/>\n\tSmith (United States): AI brings earlier care to new Parkinson&#8217;s patients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n<i>&#8222;It is an honour to announce the finalists in our first Young<br \/>\nInventors prize,&#8220;<\/i> said EPO President Ant\u00f3nio Campinos. <i>&#8222;<\/i><i>Their<br \/>\ningenuity and perseverance are an inspiration for all of us, and underline the<br \/>\nvital role that the next generation of innovators will play in building a more<br \/>\nsustainable world.&#8220;<\/i>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe finalists were selected by a jury from a pool of hundreds of candidates<br \/>\nand teams of inventors put forward by members of the public, national patent<br \/>\noffices, and EPO staff. The winners of the Young Inventors prize will be<br \/>\nannounced at the 2022 European Inventor Award ceremony. Additionally, the<br \/>\nwinner will receive a EUR 20 000 cash prize, with the second and third place<br \/>\nfinalists receiving EUR 10 000 and EUR 5 000 respectively.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nYou are invited to learn more about the greatest minds of the next<br \/>\ngeneration at the livestream Award ceremony on 21 June at 12:00 hrs CEST.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>24.
