\nMarch, the EPO and USPTO held the 9th<\/sup> CPC Annual Meeting with national
\noffices classifying in the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC). 79
\nparticipants from 33 offices attended the online meeting, including „observers“
\nfrom offices who have expressed an interest in joining the CPC in the future.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe
\nevent is a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences with the
\nCPC, as well as discuss possible improvements to the system.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe EPO and
\nthe USPTO updated the participants on the latest developments of the CPC system,
\nincluding the geographical expansion. Currently there are 32 offices
\nclassifying in CPC, of which 18 are EPO member states. A 33rd<\/sup> office
\nis currently making preparations with the EPO to join.\n<\/p>\n

\nA
\ndedicated presentation was made by the EPO to facilitate and further promote
\nthe sharing of CPC data and reclassified data.\n<\/p>\n

\nParticipants received a preview of the new version of the
\nExternal Classification Portal<\/a> (ECP<\/a>). It will offer additional services
\nto the users such as a contact information service, a CPC reclassification
\nservice, a quality monitoring service, an AI-based CPC text categoriser and CPC
\ncoverage reports. Eight offices have joined the pilot phase of the project.\n<\/p>\n

\nTopics covered during the meeting included CPC
\ncooperation, maintenance of the CPC system, new CPC project numbering, progress
\nin EPO publications and CPC training. An open floor discussion on possible
